My Labor and Delivery

Hello lovelies…..

And I’m back finally after being MIA for so long! As all moms know, life with a newborn can keep you extremely busy and that’s exactly how it’s been with this lil munchkin! My little princess arrived on the 26th February at 4AM. Quick but certainly not an easy delivery. So here’s what went down…

Went in for my scheduled 37 week check-up and lo and behold, after being examined by my doc, she informed me that I was already 3cm dilated! (For the entire week leading up to my appointment, I was experiencing contractions and immense pressure in the nether region LOL!) After being examined, doc hooked me up to the tacodynamometer (what a mouthful), to monitor my contractions and since they were still far apart, doc asked if I wanted to have a membrane sweep to get things going and of course I was all for it!!! (Had I known it would hurt that bad, I would have just waited it out…seriously!)

Once my membranes were SWEPT lolol….I was told to go home and get my things ready, as my doc advised I would most likely go into labor by the evening.

At 8.30PM contractions started becoming more regular and got stronger progressively, endured it till about 10.30PM, then told hubby to pack the car as we needed to get going! At this point my excitement was immense, “This is it”, was all I kept thinking!

Got to the hospital and my contractions slowed down, what a downer but thanks to modern medicine, I was hooked up to Pitocin IV and that got things going again and I mean going! (At this point it was nearly 12:30AM and I was just 4cm dilated)

After five minutes of pushing, little miss made her arrival at 4AM weighing 3.1 kilograms! The sound of her first cry was like music to our ears…not so melodious now when you up till the wee hours calming a very gassy baby lol!

Meet little miss Ilyana!

My princess is now 2 months and it hasn’t been an easy two months to say the least (which I will blog about shortly), however with all the trials and tribulations, eventually comes ease!

We are enjoying our newest addition immensely and big sister and brother are absolutely amazing with her…Thank God for my little helpers, don’t know what I’d do without them!

As for makeup and fashion, I’ve just been able to put myself together over weekends however during the week it’s my go to 5 minute face routine, which I will post pretty soon too!

Thanks for dropping by!

Winter Looks I’ve Been Loving

Hi there lovelies….

My apologies for not posting in quite some time now! I have been battling with the flu twice in one month, not nice at all since I can’t really take anything for it. Finally feel like I’m getting over it, seems the herbal cough mixture helped lots. To top it off, I developed an under active thyroid in my last trimester aka hypothyroidism and since being diagnosed, I have been put on medication (baby safe) which made me feel rather worse than better 😦

However, I can safely say I’m feeling heaps better now at 37 weeks and 5 days. No sign of baby making her grand appearance just yet but it could be any day now…I hope!

Just thought I’d give you a heads up of what’s been happening with me and where I’ve been, but now back to my post.

Thought I would share looks I’ve been loving this winter since winters almost over in my part of the world 😉 These looks could work just about anytime in between too I guess!

alt="Comfy Winter Look On The Run">

This look is really great for when you need comfort and practicality, especially for moms on the run. Great look for early morning school runs, shopping or a breakfast date with the girls!

alt="Lunch Date Winter Look">

I love this look, would wear it on a movie night out too most certainly. Absolutely adore teaming the colors tan and blue together!

alt="Ladies Night Out Look"

Great look for a Ladies Night Out or Date Night with hubby! I’m so going to need one of these in a few months to come!

Do let me know what you think of these looks and where you would where them to if you like!

Thanks for stopping by 😉

What’s In My Hospital Bag – Labor/Delivery

My hospital bag is ready and packed to go! Feeling more relaxed and at ease now, although there are just a few items I will need to grab last minute.

Thought I would share the list of items I’m taking along with all fellow moms to be!

So here’s a pic of everything I’m lugging with me….

alt="What's In My Hospital Bag">

As stated in my previous post of what’s in baby’s hospital bag, I was forced to pack baby’s diapers, towel, receiving and fuzzy blankets in my bag, as it wouldn’t fit in hers.

For myself, I packed:

1 x Pair of Thick, Fuzzy Socks to wear during labor as your feet become really icy!

2 x Pairs of Normal Socks

2 x Comfy Outfits ie. Two sweat pants, Two Tees and Two Vests (One as going home outfit and the other just in case I want to change out of PJs whilst in hospital.)

2 x Comfy Bras

1 x Tummy Binder (Optional of course, however this really helps support your core. I usually don’t wear it immediately after but certainly a day or two after delivery.)

1 x Pack of 5 cheapo undies that you don’t mind ruining

2 x Sets of PJs

1 x Pair of Flip Flops for use in the shower

1 x Pair of Comfy Slippers

1 x Robe or Gown (it’s sometimes really chilly in the hospital so this is a definite must for me)

alt="What's In My Hospital Bag">

For toiletries, I packed:

1 Each of Shampoo and Conditioner Samples

Hair Ties and Hair Clip

Toothbrush and Toothpaste

Travel Size Body Wash and Body Lotion

Shower Mesh Puff

A Small Perfume and Deodorant Stick

Facial Toner

Eye Makeup Remover

Face Wash

*5 x Pairs of Disposable Breast Pads

*1 x Pack of Cotton Rounds

*Mustela Nursing Comfort Balm

* – Packed in my Front Pouch of my bag and therefore not featured in the pic!

Tip: Instead of buying all travel sized toiletries, I simply decanted product into travel size bottles obtainable from container store!

alt="What's In My Hospital Bag">

As for makeup, I do plan on wearing some color on my face, as we will be taking loads of pictures and I certainly don’t want to look like death on them LOL!

So for makeup, I tried to keep it simple by packing the following:

  • Bourjois CC Cream in Shade 32 Light Beige
  • Rimmel’s Match Perfection Concealer in 030 Classic Beige

(Both of the above two products are new to me, I will only be trying them out while in hospital as they are packed and ready to go…less things to grab last minute!)

  • Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in shade 30 for a bit of contouring if I feel up to it!
  • Maybelline Gel Eyeliner in Black
  • Sephora Blush in No 12 Raspberry Sheen
  • Bioderma Restorative Lip Balm
  • Rimmel Scandaleyes Mascara in Black
  • Beauty Blender
  • Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Brown which I use for brows (Not my usual way to fill in brows but since I don’t use this eyeliner much, I thought I would pack it and lessen my last minute grab list.)
  • NYX Lipliner Pencil in 822 Coffee
  • NYX Adorable Palette (Just in case)
  • For lips: Sephora Matte Lipstick in 3065A and Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 02
  • Then lastly just a few makeup brushes and sponge shadow applicators.

This may seem like much to some but I’d rather have the option than not at all 🙂

Not included in this list which are among my last minute grabs are:

Hair Brush

Travel Hair Dryer

And my Powder Compact which I use daily, hence it will have to be grabbed last minute!

I will also be taking along a snack bag containing my favorite vitamin and bottled water, sodas, hard candy and a few snack bars.

Hope this list is somewhat helpful to others as packing for the hospital can be somewhat daunting and exciting at the same time, if that makes any sense LOL!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

What’s In My Baby’s Hospital Bag

Reached my 32 week mark already, can’t believe how quickly time has passed by! I thought it may be a little early to start packing mine and baby’s hospital bag, but then again I’d rather be prepared ahead of time than leaving it for later.

Having washed and ironed all baby’s clothes and blankets, it was simply too hard to resist getting the packing done!

So here is my complete list of what I’m taking along, I may have slightly over packed but I prefer to be prepared and have some options too!

alt="What's In Baby's Hospital Bag">

5 x Short Sleeve Vests / Onesies

8 x Bibs

5 x Baby Growers (the long sleeve footed onesies) plus 5 x Matching Hats

4 x Pairs of Socks

2 x Pairs of Scratch Mittens

4 x Bow/Flower Headbands

2 x Long Sleeved Vests / Onesies

2 x Pants

2 x Muslin Cloths (Burp Cloths)

Baby Grooming Kit – Hair Brush, Comb and Nail Clippers

3 x Pacifiers plus 1 Pacifier Chain (NUK, Avent and Tommee Tippee 0-6 months) – Giving her some options 😉

30 x Newborn Diapers (1 Pack)

1 x Pack of Sensitive Wipes

Cotton Wool

Baby Q Tips

1 x Tub of Vaseline

Weleda Calendula Nappy Rash Cream

Weleda Calendula Baby Face Cream

Weleda Calendula Hair and Body Wash

Weleda Calendula Body Lotion

2 x Baby Wash Cloths

Scented Disposable Diaper Bags

Baby’s “Going Home Outfit” is the coral ensemble featured in the picture above. It is included in the list of 5 growers. I packed two complete outfits (i.e. grower, vest/onesie, matching bib and hat) in one large, zip lock bag. The “going home outfit’ is packed in one large, zip lock bag on its own, including matching bib and hat, headband, body vest and booties. In a smaller zip lock bag, I packed two long sleeved vests/onesies with two pants. The very last small zip lock bag contains scratch mittens, socks and head bands.

I love, love, love zip lock bags, it really makes organizing so much easier, as well as giving easy access and keeping the items clean at the same time!

So that’s it for clothes! Most of the clothes are newborn plus a few items in 0-3 months…just in case 😉

I will be using the cotton wool with warm water for nappy changes although I am taking a pack of sensitive wipes as well.

In addition to these, I’m taking along:

1 x Baby Hooded Towel

2 x Muslin Receiving Blankets

1 x Flannel Receiving Blanket

1 x Fuzzy Blanket

These as well as the diapers, will be packed in my bag as it certainly wouldn’t fit in hers!

Hope this list helps you! If I’ve forgotten anything, please feel free to add in comments 😉

That’s it for baby…now for mine 🙂

Thanks for stopping by!

My Five Favorite Concealers

Hi there beauties…my apologies for being MIA for a while!

Thought I would share with you my all time favorite concealing products.

They are:

alt="My Five Favorite Concealers">

1. MAC Select Cover Up Concealer in NC30

I really like this concealer and as you can see by the pic it’s almost empty. It has a great consistency, coverage is amazing too and it doesn’t cake or crease, however I won’t be getting another as the next concealer I’m about to list has exceeded my expectations by far!

2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Light Pale

I’m loving this concealer, it works amazingly well! Has great coverage, feels good on your skin, doesn’t cake or crease and works great as a highlighter as well. Very affordable compared to MAC Select Cover Up and works just as great! I will certainly be getting more of this!

3. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 10

This is a great concealer as well, it has a similar consistency to the Instant Age Rewind, with the added bonus of a wand applicator. Coverage is great and like the Instant Age Rewind, it holds up well all day without caking or creasing. I use this shade mainly to highlight.

4. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 20

I use this purely to conceal any spots or blemishes to help even out my skin. As with all these concealers, I use them after foundation application.

5. NYX HD Concealer in CW01

Another great concealer, doesn’t cake or crease and holds up well all day. I use this shade purely for highlighting. I’m certainly impressed with this product and plan to get a darker shade for concealing purposes solely.

Of course I don’t use all of these products at the same time, but these are certainly my favorites and a girls gotta have options right?

Necklace & Bracelet Display Stand Easy DIY Project

Hi there beauties…

So, as promised I finally found the time to post my very easy Necklace Display Stand DIY Project Pictorial.

This is really such an easy, simple way to neatly and conveniently store, and display your favorite necklaces as well as bracelets.

Previously my jewelry accessory storage consisted of three plastic box containers from Ikea, one for necklaces, one for bracelets and one for ear rings. This made it such a chore to access the pieces I planned to wear for the day, and when in a hurry, I would usually just skip accessories altogether! With this display stand, it just makes access so much easier, everything is right there for the taking, quick and easy, no fuss, no searching through a box filled with necklaces, no more tangled necklaces either and best of all, it costs almost nothing to make!

Here’s what you will need:

2 x Wooden Boards size of your choice (I used 2 x 45 cm wide x 40 cm high x 12 mm thick pine boards)

2 x Hinges

19 Screw Hooks 1 3/4 inches

150 Grit Sandpaper

2 Cans of Krylon Dual Paint & Primer in Black or color of your choice

Polyurethane Clear Gloss and Sponge Applicator (optional)

You will also need a star screwdriver to attach the hinges as well as a hammer to attach screw hooks with ease.

alt="Necklace & Bracelet Display Stand DIY Project - Jewelry Display Stand DIY Project - How to make Jewelry Display Stand DIY">

alt="Necklace & Bracelet Display Stand DIY Project - Jewelry Display Stand DIY Project - How to make Jewelry Display Stand DIY">

Step 1: Lightly sand the boards using 150 grit sandpaper, paying attention to rough edges where the boards were cut.

Step 2: Once sanded, wipe down with a damp cloth getting rid of any traces of dust. Allow boards to dry fully and prepare your painting surface preferably outdoors. I used garbage bags, which I cut open and then taped them to the floor outside and a couple of newspaper sheets.

Step 3: Start by applying one coat of paint to both boards including the edges. Once this has dried, lightly sand any rough spots, wipe with slightly damp cloth and apply a second coat. Allow to dry fully following drying times stated on the can. (TIP: When spray painting your boards, place a brick under each board before painting, as this will elevate the board and prevent it from sticking to the drop sheet while drying. You could also use baking loaf tins as I did.)

Step 4: Once the painted side of both boards are dry, you will now have to flip it over to paint the other side in exactly the same way as explained in step 3.

Allow your Boards to dry preferably overnight.

At this point you may use them as is, with a matte finish or you may apply a clear gloss as I did in the following step –

Step 5: With your boards elevated, using a sponge brush applicator, apply your polyurethane clear gloss in even strokes including edges. Once completely dry, flip the board and repeat this step on the other side and allow this to dry completely preferably overnight. (TIP: While using polyurethane, between drying times, place your sponge brush applicator in a zip lock bag, as this will prevent it from drying out and becoming hard and unusable.)

One light coat is enough to give it a really durable finish.

Step 6: Depending on the height of your boards you may need 3 hinges, if your boards are taller than mine used here. Place your hinges on either end of both boards, one at the top and one at the bottom. I placed mine 5 cm down from top edge and 5 cm up from bottom edge. To do this, all you will need to do is mark your 5 cm mark, place the hinges, and with a star screwdriver, screw them hinges down!

Step 7: Lastly mark where you would like to add the screw hooks. For necklaces place each set of two hooks at least 15 cm apart, as this allows it to hang better. To screw in the hooks, place screw end on your marking and hammer the tip in slightly, then follow by screwing them in fully.

And that’s that…Now to add your pieces and Voila!

I’m loving how this project turned out and even better, I’m loving how easy it is to access my bling now!

Hope you like it too!

Now for an earring display DIY next 🙂

New Year, New Beginnings = New Makeup Room :)

Finally, I decided to put a rather large room to good use and convert it into my very new make – up room. Initially I was using this room to store storage boxes containing the usual home bits and bobs and since I started blogging, I have been wanting to create an area dedicated solely to beauty and all things girly…yes I admit, I’m a girly girl LOL!

Another reason for this was mainly because I want to start my very own video channel, dedicated to all things fashion and beauty, including make – up application techniques and video tutorials, product hauls and reviews, hair and nail tutorials and much, much more. So with this being said, I certainly needed to vamp up my space to utilize as my filming studio and backdrop.

Now it’s not entirely complete, I have still a few finishing touches to go, must still move my make – up products into the new space, but since I’m awaiting the delivery of a few items, I can only finish up completely once everything has arrived. However, because I cannot contain my excitement, I’m going to share the progress with you now.

Also there is another DIY project I’m busy with at the moment to compliment this space, a necklace display stand! I will be sure to post a tutorial of that too in the upcoming week.

Here are the before and after pictures:

alt="New Year, New Beginnings = New Makeup Room My Makeup Room DIY My Makeup Vanity DIY Makeup Room Ideas Makeup Vanity Ideas">

The space in all its’ original glory…NOT!!! Boring!!!

alt="New Makeup Room DIY Makeup Room Ideas Makeup Vanity Ideas DIY">

Now we getting somewhere!

I not so carefully marked and measured where the stripes should go, eyeballing some of them (shocked face) and dearest hubby kindly taped the stripes and painted all the high bits, as we have very high ceilings and getting up there requires a 4 meter high ladder! (SCARY)

Most of everything in my new room is from Ikea and bit & bobs from Daiso. (Love Love Love Daiso!)

And here is the final product…Drum roll please…

I’m super happy with how it turned out! Hope you like it too 😉

Apologies for the quality of the pictures…most of them were taken at night 😦
